The H160 is an integrated amplifier built around a wide range of connections. Analog sources can use a balanced XLR input, an unbalanced RCA input or a home theatre input. Digital sources can use coaxial, optical, USB or ethernet connections. Music can also be streamed wirelessly from devices that support Apple AirPlay or DLNA.
The amplifier uses Hegel's SoundEngine design, which the maker describes as patented, with low distortion and a high damping factor for bass control. It also includes processing intended to reduce some of the problems caused by lower-quality sources such as phones, tablets or CD players. The maker states that it draws up to 60% less power than a conventional amplifier. It received the EISA Amplifier 2015-2016 award.
Outputs include a fixed and a variable line-level RCA output for connecting other equipment, and a front 6.3 mm headphone jack. Speaker output is rated at 150 W per channel into 8 Ohms and 250 W per channel into 4 Ohms.
