The № 5101 is a three-in-one source: a slot-loading player for SACD, CD-A, CD-R and CD-RW discs, a network streamer, and a digital-to-analog converter. It is described as a companion source for the № 5805 or № 5802. Streaming works over Ethernet or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with playback from network storage and from USB drives.
The converter section is built around an ESS Sabre 32-bit chip with jitter elimination and a fully balanced, discrete current-to-voltage stage. The analog output uses a discrete, direct-coupled, dual-monaural line-level circuit, and a linear supply with an oversized toroidal transformer feeds the unit. File support covers FLAC, WAV, AIFF, OGG, DSF/DFF (up to DSD128), AAC, MP3 and WMA.
Analog output is on balanced XLR and single-ended RCA. Digital connections include coaxial and optical inputs and outputs, and USB-A. Control options are a supplied aluminum IR remote, mobile apps, and RS-232, IR and 12V trigger ports for system integration. The front panel is one-inch bead-blasted aluminum, and the unit is made in the USA.
