The PMC 8-2 XBD is an active three-way mid-field reference monitor paired with the PMC 8-2 SUB subwoofer in a twin-cabinet format. It is aimed at professionals who need full-range monitoring in modest to larger control rooms.

The 8-2 XBD system combines the PMC 8-2 mid-field monitor with the 8-2 SUB subwoofer so the two cabinets work as one integrated speaker. Adding the sub gives 6 dB more bass headroom than the main monitor alone, and the stated aim is consistent bass depth and dynamics at any listening level. The main monitor uses two 200 mm (8") bass drivers, a 55 mm (2") soft-dome mid-range and a 27 mm (1") soft-dome tweeter, with ATL bass loading of 3 m effective length.
In the XBD configuration the audio signal goes into the 8-2 monitor and is passed on to the sub through the digital through output. DSP in each cabinet handles crossover, driver protection, EQ, delay and polarity, and the two units are aligned acoustically. Class-D amplification is built in: 400 W each for HF and MF, 2 x 400 W for LF and 2 x 400 W for the sub in XBD mode.
Inputs are an XLR that switches between analogue and AES3 digital (16/24-bit, 18-192 kHz), with a 24-bit/96 kHz AES3 digital through output. An RJ45 network port gives access to the SoundAlign web interface for single or grouped speaker settings, and an expansion card slot is provided for future connectivity upgrades. Dedicated 19" floor stands are optional.
