The J-Iso is a passive stereo converter that takes a balanced +4dB line level signal and delivers it as an unbalanced -10dB signal. It is built for sending the output of a console or preamp to consumer-level recorders, computer inputs and similar devices. Jensen transformers in the signal path isolate the two sides, which helps remove hum and buzz from ground loops and blocks stray DC.
The design uses discrete components throughout. A set-and-forget level control reduces the input signal so it does not overload the destination device. Outputs are provided as a pair of 1/4" connectors, a set of RCA jacks and a 3.5mm (1/8") mini jack, so a mini recorder or laptop can be connected directly.
The enclosure is made from 14 gauge steel with a bookend layout that protects connectors and controls, and the steel also shields the transformers from outside magnetic fields. An internal I-beam insert keeps the circuit board from flexing, reducing stress on solder joints. Mounting accessories include TrainTrack Plus, J-Rak 4 and J-Clamp.
