The HB1 is a compact Bluetooth DAC/amp that pairs with a phone or PC over Bluetooth 5.0 (Qualcomm CSR8675 chipset) and drives wired IEMs and headphones. It handles LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC, and can hold connections to two devices at once. Used over USB, it works as a plug-and-play DAC with native DSD256 and PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz. It also acts as a hardware MQA renderer, though a compatible software decoder is needed to unfold the stream.
Outputs are a 3.5 mm unbalanced jack and a 4.4 mm balanced jack, rated at 2 Vrms and 4 Vrms respectively with no load. The USB-C input accepts both UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0, which makes it usable with consoles such as PlayStation and Switch. An interchangeable shielded cable is supplied in USB-C and Lightning versions. A built-in MEMS microphone with cVc 8.0 noise suppression covers calls, and a 4-pole in-line mic works while USB DAC mode is active.
Other functions include a car mode that powers the unit on and off with the vehicle's AUX connection, charging that can be shared with a playback device, and two LEDs that show file type and battery level. The AK Control app sets device priority, volume, user EQ, car mode and DAC filter. The body is polycarbonate with an aluminum volume wheel, and firmware can be updated.
