2-XM

The 2-XM recreates a 1970s polyphonic analog synthesizer that was originally made of two single-voice modules coupled together. It adds modern conveniences such as MIDI and USB, stereo operation and a large number of CV and gate inputs and outputs. Across its two synthesizer expander modules it provides four VCOs, four envelope generators, two LFOs and two multi-mode VCFs.

The two voices can be combined for two-voice polyphony, split, or stacked with all four oscillators in unison. Each VCO has adjustable frequency, modulation and pulse width controls, and the oscillators can be synced for lead sounds. Each VCF has frequency, modulation and resonance controls. Turning the filter knob fully left selects low-pass, fully right selects high-pass and the centre position selects notch, while a switch sets band-pass mode. The envelopes offer attack, decay and sustain controls, and a VCA switch toggles between envelope control and VCA, which overrides ENV 1. An external VCA control can also be patched in.

A 2-channel mixer provides level and pan controls for each module, along with a portamento function. Each module has extensive CV and gate connections for internal and external modulation, so other modules can be patched in. The unit can be moved into a standard Eurorack case to fit an existing system.
